At EDF Benchmarking, we are dedicated to meticulously scrutinizing the performance of dairy farms both locally and globally. Our flagship analysis, the Cost of Production Comparison (CoP), serves as the cornerstone of our benchmarking endeavors. Led by our esteemed Scientific Team for Analysis and Research (EDF STAR), in collaboration with farms and advisors within our network, the CoP facilitates a profound exchange of insights during our prestigious events and meetings.
We meticulously analyze and compare the economic and overall performance of over 300 individual dairy farms across Europe and beyond. Leveraging meticulously collected annual accounting data, we calculate various key metrics, including cost of production, break-even point, entrepreneur’s profit, and other operational figures for each farm’s dairy enterprise. Our cost of production calculations encompass all economic costs, including those for family labor, farm-owned land, farm-owned milk quota, and both own and debt capital invested in the dairy enterprise.
At EDF, our mission is to cultivate a vibrant community of dairy farmers through fostering international exchange and knowledge transfer. Central to this endeavor is our comprehensive and meticulously curated database, which, coupled with the wealth of experience and expertise within our membership, enables us to provide our members with unparalleled insights. Through our CoP analysis, we aim to empower our members to benchmark their economic performance against that of their peers across Europe and beyond, facilitating a journey of continuous improvement and growth. These operational metrics form the foundation for enriching discussions during EDF meetings and events, covering topics such as individual farm performance, competitiveness, dairy farm economics, production systems, and regional conditions in Europe and beyond.
